Ever since buying my own juicer a year ago, I have become a huge freshly pressed juice lover! I fancy them all – green, red, orange or yellow, but during my last year’s visit to Serbia’s capital Belgrade, I tried this delicious red beetroot juice and stumbled upon my number one juice! Back home, I was keen on trying it out myself and creating a recipe for this bright red drink full of vitamins.
Beetroots is a healthy vegetable that is sadly often overlooked, despite its high amount of nutrients, one of which is betaine. Our body requires a lot of betaine, which stimulates our liver and gallbladder and thus supports a smooth digestion and fast detoxification.
Beetroots not only contain a lot of betaine, but they also decrease our homocysteine levels, which protect us from cardiovascular diseases. Betaine actively supports this process and can therefore be considered a real defender against heart attacks and strokes.
Furthermore, beetroots control and even help reduce blood pressure due to their high dose of nitrate. Our body transforms nitrate to nitrite, which activates the formation of nitrogen monoxide in the blood, leading to broadening blood vessels, which ultimately lower blood pressure. Researchers have also found that beetroot can help fighting cancer, supporting detoxifications, and contains a lot of folic acid, which is especially healthy for pregnant women.
Now enough of today’s biology lesson! Here comes the recipe for my current favorite juice with the red vitamin bomb:
- 1 beetroot (raw)
- 2 carrots
- ¼ pineapple
- ½ orange
- A little piece of ginger
Juice all the ingredients and enjoy the deliciously fresh and spicy taste. This will definitely kickstart your day!
