Lately, I have reduced my consumption of fresh juices and smoothies quite a bit after I realized that too much fructose, the natural sugar in fruits, didn’t work well for me. Despite a diagnosed fructose intolerance that I’ve had for years, fruits were still a big part of my diet, especially during the summer, when my parents’ garden bloomed with regional berries and other fruits. I couldn’t resist and I still don’t one hundred percent, but I decided to reduce my fruit intake significantly, which is why juices and smoothies have become a rare indulgence in my diet.
However, from time to time I still love to mix up some golden ingredients and enjoy a freshly pressed juice or creamy smoothie. Trying to keep the fruit content as low as possible, I stick to one fruit just for adding sweetness to the drink and have otherwise lots of vegetables and herbs instead.
This smoothie is one of my favorite health drinks, since it contains the number one anti-inflammatory ingredient turmeric. You may have come across turmeric a couple of times, but why is this little root, that resembles a ginger root, actually so good for us? Over 6,000 published studies prove the health benefits of turmeric and particularly its main component curcumin. It has been discovered that curcumin fights various diseases and has healing properties for our body. Even severe diseases, such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes, and cholesterol may be smoothened or even reversed by regular intake of turmeric. It eases inflammations of all kinds, since it works as a natural painkiller.
